My hardest finals are just around the corner, and I am so thankful to have rediscovered this tune. It starts off with a distorted cassette player, instantly setting the bar high. However, this production duo made up of Harrison Mills (Catacombkid) and Clayton Knight (BeachesBeaches), intended on doing just that.

Download: Odesza- “How Did I Get Here”
Once the “cassette” begins playing music, a single guitar plays a hypnotic jig. Odesza shows no mercy and begins to compile wooden percussion and other organic sounds over the guitar. To top it all off, they sample a woman’s powerful yet soothing vocals. Using the vocals as an instrument, they echo the shit out of it and chop it up into a pleasurable and tolerable beauty. So plug in your headphones and prepare yourself for a musical odyssey that involves nothing but an open mind. ”Odesza’s production is smooth like silk,” in my Chinese accent.

Turnt Up Tuesday V.11

We’re back with another weekly installment of TUT! This is the post that will jump-start your week with the power of trap, bass and beats. Sadly, it’s finals week, so I didn’t choose a bunch of ignorantly loud wall shakers. On the contrary, I chose some soothing gems that will massage your tender ears, and alleviate the stress. For those who are done with finals and are frantically looking for something to celebrate to; the last song should make you bounce. Good luck with finals y’all.

Hey y’all! First and foremost I would like to apologize for my lack of posts. I was busy planning and organizing our first show in the Olympia forrest last Friday. With the help of our Northwest based contributors and a few friends we were able to get 1000 watts of sound, 800 watts of lighting and close to 200 guests to show support out in the middle of nowhere.
The killer lineup: 8:00PM with Fergus9:30PM Myself11:00PM Charlie Duke1:00AM ‎كولين روس (Colin)

The show was a great success and every DJ killed it. Take a look at our vine posts and follow us yo!

We are planning are next shows and they will be in the near future I promise. Right now I am in Los Angeles for two weeks but afterwards we are going to be playing all along the west coast. We are going to bring more power, more art, and more fun. So if you’re around please come join the fun! Lastly for all that attended and helped, thank you very much we couldn’t have done it without you.

Turnt Up Tuesday V.10

image

It’s Tuesday y’all! My Tuesday started off horribly. I woke up bright and early to bike to the gym. On my way there, I was shit on by a bird. It dropped a deuce on my face with immaculate precision. Now, this wasn’t a small bird. Judging solely by the size of the poop, it must have been a pelican. At the time I was “Oh dude, nice,” cause I thought it was good luck; but then I smelled it and died. I think it’s safe to assume that you guys are having a better Tuesday than I am. If that’s not the case, this post should help. Without further ado, here is our tenth volume of TUT.

Download: Go Exploring - “Sonder”

Matt Scime creator of Go Exploring dropped me a message a few months back asking me to check out his sounds and boy was I impressed. Go Exploring consists of only Scime and his instruments, but he creates a lasting and enjoyable experience nonetheless. 23 years old and hailing from New York I would like to formally introduce  Go Exploring

Go Exploringis perfect for those relaxing summer days. Sun drenched, full of energy and accented with a shoegazey filterScime creates a sound that is complex, enjoyable, and more importantly original. It is a great hybridization of dream pop and tropical indie.

Scime has a lot planned this year. He is currently working on an album titled Fluorescent Triangle and plans on a new direction.

“I did what I wanted to do with my first album which was have a congruent sound throughout. But now, the possibilities are endless. I want to do literally everything and I’m starting with Fluorescent Triangle.”

“…  I try to let the music and my imagination coincide with each other.”

Scime’s eclectic passions for music, film and graphic design only supports the powerhouse that he is. Release after release I find myself hooked. So sit back turn up the speakers and Go Exploring this summer.

Future Friday V.8

“It’s Friday.” That’s right Rebecca, it totally is. Rebecca’s Friday was all about eating cereal, ditching school, kicking it in the front and back seat of her friends car; loosely translating into being a bad ass. However, here on Future Gideon, Fridays are far more exciting. They are weekly installments that refresh your playlists. Future Fridays aren’t genre oriented like our Tuesday posts; nay, they are much more than that. So enjoy the easy pickin’s, expand your musical horizon, and enjoy your Friday!

It’s Thursday and that means preparing for this weekend. Tomorrow Lucas will have a new Future Friday post but I want to gift to all of you Thursday through Sunday students a house beat that your ears will love.

Isaac Tichauer of French Express is set to drop his full 5 track EP next week. “Take Over You” is the first song on the release and it is hands down amazing. Sydney born (no surprise) and a master of deep cut groovy vibes, Isaac Tichaue’s “Devotion” will surly be one of this years best house albums. Oh and it is a free download …

I know it isn’t Thursday but dammit I want to throw it back to a time where life was simple, fashion was ugly, and RnB music was king. Reminisce to those nights spent with Next’s 1998 hit Too Close

and while you’re at it check out these remixes and edits. A modern take on RnB of the 90s. I know, I know many songs these days sample 90s RnB hits but indulge yourself one more time.

Mmm mmm mmm too good. I hope this quick fix satisfies. Until next time.
